National Rail Museum:- The National Rail Museum is a museum in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi which focuses on

the rail heritage of India it opened on the 1 February 1977. It is located in over 10 acres (40,000 m2) of land with both indoor and outdoor exhibits. A toy train offers rides around that site on regular days.

Museum remains open from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm (Last entry 4.30 pm, last 1:8 toy train and joy train round at 4:45pm) Tuesday to Sunday. Museum remains closed on every Monday and National Holidays. Apart from vast outdoor and state of the art Indoor Gallery. It is now equipped with 1:8 scale train, Diesel simulator, Steam Simulator, Coach Simulator and many more. (Closed on Monday)

Craft Museum:- It was set up over a period of 30 years starting in the 1950s and 60s by the efforts of the

renowned freedom fighter late Smt Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay, when the area was envisaged as an

ethnographic space where craftsmen from various parts of India would come in to work towards preservation of various traditional arts and crafts. By the 1980s it already had a substantial collection, and in time the museum space gradually evolved and transformed into its present shape. Michelle Obama at National Craft Museum, Delhi, 2010.Today the museum holds over 35,000 rare and distinctive pieces reflecting the continuing tradition of Indian craftsmen through painting, embroidery, textiles, various crafts of clay, stone and wood, all housed in a building designed between 1975 and 1990 by architect Charles Correa, incorporating traditional architectural vocabulary into a modern design. (Closed on Monday)

The National Museum:- The Museum has a vast collection of Indian bronzes, terracotta (2700 BC) and wood sculptures dating back to the Mauryan period (2nd-3rd century BC), various exhibits from the Vijayanagar period in south India, Mughal period, Indus Valley civilization, Greekinfluenced Gandhara period and Gupta period. Miniatures and mural paintings, costumes, arts and artefacts of various tribal people and precious jewellery heavily decorated with huge emeralds, diamonds and pearls from 2500 BC, famous bronze dancing statue from Mohenjodaro, wonderful collection of weapons, musical instruments, central Buddhist antiques and the autographed memories of the Mughal Emperor Jahangir are the eye-catchers at this museum. The rich and varied collection is spread over three spacious floors and at least one full day is required to see all the objects on display.

Gandhi Smriti Museum:- The residence of industrialist BD Birla has been converted into a memorial to

Mahatma Gandhi, where he used to stay during his visits to Delhi. Gandhiji was assassinated here on his way to offer customary evening prayers. Large collection of photographs with a few personal belongings and a series of small dolls houses and terracotta dolls illustrating Gandhijis’ life are the attractions at this museum. Multi-media show is also held between 1:00 pm to 1:30pm (Closed on Monday)
